Siliguri, 12th June: Fraudsters posing as police personnel allegedly duped a Siliguri resident of his gold chain and ring in Ward No. 12.
Ashok Kumar Ghosh reportedly fell victim to the scam after a youth approached him while he was leaving home and claimed that someone nearby was calling him. When he reached the spot, another individual allegedly introduced himself as a police personnel and instructed him to remove his gold ornaments for safety.
Believing the claim, Ghosh removed his gold chain and ring. The accused allegedly wrapped the jewellery in paper and asked him to keep it in his bag. Later, he discovered that the items had been replaced with fake ones, while the fraudsters had already fled the spot.
Police reached the spot after being informed and have started an investigation.
Ward No. 12 Councillor Basudeb Ghosh expressed concern, stating that such an incident had not occurred in the area earlier.
