Rajganj, 03rd July: A case of alleged corruption in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) has sparked controversy in the Mantadari Gram Panchayat area of Rajganj block. Following an investigation, police arrested former Trinamool Congress Gram Panchayat Pradhan Deepak Biswas in connection with the case.
According to allegations, although a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana was supposed to be allotted to a beneficiary in 2019, the beneficiary’s job card was allegedly used to provide housing benefits to another person through illegal financial transactions. As a result, the actual beneficiary has allegedly been deprived of receiving benefits under the scheme due to discrepancies in official records.
A written complaint was lodged against the accused and several others. Based on the complaint, police launched an investigation and, during a late-night operation on Thursday, officers of the Gajoldoba Outpost under Bhorer Alo Police Station arrested Deepak Biswas.
The accused was produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Friday. Speaking to reporters while being taken to court, Deepak Biswas said, “I have no idea why I have been arrested.”
