Elderly man’s gold chain, cash allegedly stolen in Siliguri; caregiver woman and her brother-in-law arrested

Siliguri, 09th September: A gold chain and cash were allegedly stolen from the home of an elderly man in Subhash Pally, Siliguri. Siliguri Police have arrested a caregiver woman and her brother-in-law in connection with the case.

According to police, Labani Roy alias Rinki was employed as a caregiver for ailing Narendra Nath Dam. She allegedly took advantage of an opportunity to steal the gold chain and cash from a cupboard at the house.

Police said Labani later handed the stolen chain to her brother-in-law, Ram Chandra Sarkar. Allegedly to conceal the identity of the jewellery, Ram Chandra melted the chain and converted it into gold.

After discovering that the valuables were missing, Narendra Nath Dam lodged a complaint at Siliguri Police Station. During the investigation, police questioned Labani and subsequently arrested Ram Chandra based on information provided by her. Police also recovered the gold obtained after the allegedly stolen chain was melted.

Both accused were produced before the Siliguri court on Wednesday. Further investigation is underway.
