DRI intercepted two gold smugglers from Rajdhani Express in NJP

Siliguri, 15th October: The DRI intercepted two gold smugglers from Rajdhani Express that was en route to Delhi via Siliguri from the Indo-Myanmar border. DRI ran a campaign and arrested the duo who have been identified as Mohammad Mustaqeem (37) and Abdul Rahman (51), both are said to be residents of Tamil Nadu.


Reportedly, based on a tip-off, the DRI team launched an operation on the train when Rajdhani Guwahati Express reached NJP on Friday. During this, Mustaqeem and Rahman were apprehended on suspicion. Upon searching, a piece of gold was recovered from a special compartment of the trolley bag and a gold biscuit was recovered from the undergarment of another person.

On failing to produce the valid documents of the recovered gold the DRI team arrested the duo. The weight of the said seized gold is said to be 1 kg 212 grams whose market value has been estimated at Rs 65, 38,812. Apart from this, the DRI also recovered two counterfeit Aadhaar cards. Both have been produced in the Siliguri court today.
