DRI arrest woman for gold smuggling in Siliguri

Siliguri, 27th August: The DRI team has busted a gold smuggling scandal which was being transported from the Indo-Myanmar border to Delhi via Siliguri. DRI arrested a woman in connection to the incident and recovered 996 grams of gold from her possession. The alleged accused has been identified as Baljinder Kaur, a resident of Guwahati.


Acting on a tip-off, DRI launched a campaign to seize the gold which was getting smuggled through Siliguri by Rajdhani Express. During the operation, the team searched Baljinder Kaur on the basis of suspicion as soon as the train stopped at Ambari – Falakata railway station. Six pieces of gold biscuits were recovered from the woman’s bag. The DRI took the woman into custody and brought her to their office for questioning. On interrogation, the woman failed to produce any gold-related papers to the DRI and was immediately taken into custody. 

Today the said accused was produced in the Siliguri court. As per the DRI’s lawyer Ratan Banik, the DRI arrested a woman resident of Guwahati with six pieces of gold biscuits. The weight of the seized gold is 996 grams of which market value is estimated to be Rs 51 lakh 24 thousand 420.


At the same time, defence lawyer Akhil Biswas alleged that the DRI has implicated his client in the wrong case and alleged that DRI has no solid evidence against his client.
