Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrives in Siliguri to meet the families of soldiers who were martyred in Manipur landslide

Siliguri, 18th August: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived at the Bengdubi Army Cantonment in Siliguri today. The Minister met the families of the martyred soldiers who died in the Manipur landslide a few months back. Among the 18 martyred soldiers, 11 were from North Bengal and Sikkim. Along with the Defence Minister, India’s army chief and Darjeeling MP Raju Bista were also present. 


During the visit, he provided financial assistance of Rs 07 lakh to the families of the martyred soldiers. During the visit, the families accepted the financial aid with teary eyes and were seen being emotional because of the loss in their families. Along with this, Rajnath Singh also paid his respect and tribute to the martyred soldiers. 

Speaking in this regard, Defence Minister said that he is visiting Siliguri in order to meet the families of the jawans who were killed in the Manipur landslide and also assured to stand with the families of the martyrs in the future. MP Raju Bista said that the government is putting efforts to provide government jobs to one member of the family and further assured of all kinds of support from the central government.
