Siliguri, 11th August: Allegations of medical negligence following the death of a patient triggered tension at a private hospital on Sevoke Road in Siliguri on Monday night.
The deceased has been identified as Pawan Sha, a resident of Gurung Basti in Ward No. 03 of Siliguri. According to his family, Pawan had developed a health problem related to his head and was initially admitted to a private hospital for treatment.
The family claimed that Pawan’s condition was stable while he was undergoing treatment at the first hospital. However, they were later informed that his condition had deteriorated and that he needed to be shifted to a hospital on Sevoke Road for advanced treatment.
Accordingly, Pawan was admitted to the hospital on Monday afternoon. The family alleged that they were not allowed to meet him after his admission and were not properly informed about his condition.
According to the family, when they tried to meet Pawan, the hospital authorities declared him dead, following which the family members protested outside the facility.
The relatives alleged medical negligence and staged a protest against the hospital. They later blocked Sevoke Road in protest, following which police from Bhakti Nagar Police Station reached the spot. The situation was brought under control following police intervention.
When approached for a response, the hospital authorities declined to comment on camera.
