Siliguri, 10th September: The Darjeeling District Congress staged a protest at the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Thursday, alleging poor municipal services in the city and demanding early municipal elections.
Congress workers took out a protest march and reached the SMC premises, where they staged a demonstration. They alleged that several municipal services, including drinking water supply and garbage clearance, are in poor condition across the corporation area.
The party demanded that municipal elections be held at the earliest, stating that residents are facing difficulties due to the alleged lack of proper municipal services.
Darjeeling District Congress President Subin Bhowmik alleged that city residents are not receiving proper municipal services. He claimed that there are multiple problems with municipal services and that the overall situation in the city has deteriorated.
Congress leaders and workers also staged a sit-in on the road in front of the SMC as part of the protest.
