Cybercrime slowly setting its foot back in Siliguri with new tricks, scammed Rs 20,000 from a businessman’s account

Siliguri, 11th October: Cyber scammers have again been setting foot in the city. With the awareness among the people of avoiding any scam calls and sharing OTPs fraudsters have come up with new ways. On the one hand, people are being made aware to avoid cyber fraud and also of the ways the scam conducts. But, there are people as well who have fallen prey to lakhs of rupees by getting conned with the scammers’ tricks. 


In Siliguri city, cyber thugs have targeted a businessman this time. The thugs scammed Rs 20,000 from the bank account of Ramani Sarkar, a resident of Champasari, Siliguri, by introducing an army jawan. In fact, on Monday morning, Ramani Sarkar got a call from an unknown number and was told over the phone that some electrical work would be done in the Army Corps and asked him for the account of charges. Ramani Sarkar sent the account of the charges to him through WhatsApp. After some time Ramani Sarkar received a link on his WhatsApp number. After clicking on that link, he learned that Rs 20,000 were deducted from his bank account. 

After falling prey to a thugs’ scam, Ramani Sarkar approached the Pradhan Nagar police station where he lodged a written complaint at the Cyber Crime Police Station. On the other hand, the residents of the city are worried about such scams taking place in the near future.
