Siliguri, 09th September: The Excise Department has busted an illegal factory allegedly involved in the large-scale production of counterfeit liquor in the Sahadargach area of Bidhannagar under Phansidewa Police Station. A large quantity of counterfeit liquor, empty bottles, fake caps, labels, holograms, raw materials and equipment used for liquor production were seized during the raid. One person, identified as Biswajit Sarkar alias ‘Basu’, was arrested in connection with the case.
According to the Excise Department, officials conducted the operation under the supervision of the Deputy Excise Collector of the Bagdogra Range, with assistance from the Siliguri Range team. The raid was conducted at the residential premises of Biswajit Sarkar, where counterfeit liquor was allegedly being prepared without valid permission.
During the operation, officials seized 924 bottles of counterfeit liquor, each with a capacity of 750 ml, containing around 693 litres of liquor. Around 5,500 fake bottle caps of different brands, approximately 38,000 fake labels and 20,000 fake holograms were also seized.
