Siliguri, 09th September: The CPI(M) backed left front staged a protest in Siliguri on Wednesday, raising several demands including the early conduct of municipal elections and the formation of an elected board at the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC).
The Darjeeling District CPI(M) organised a protest march and rally, following which party leaders and workers reached the SMC premises and staged a demonstration.
The CPI(M) alleged that the absence of an elected municipal board for a prolonged period has affected civic services in the city. The party demanded that municipal elections be held at the earliest to end the administrative deadlock and ensure an elected board at the civic body.
