Burmese teak smuggling scheme foiled in Kharibari, one arrested

Kharibari, 26th May: A major Burmese teak wood smuggling operation was uncovered at the Bengal-Bihar border in Kharibari, where authorities seized a container carrying smuggled timber hidden under bamboo. One person has been arrested in connection with the incident.


According to reports, the Kharibari police station acted on a tip-off and conducted a raid, recovering approximately 30 pieces of Burmese teak wood concealed beneath bamboo in the container. The arrested individual, identified as Rajesh Yadav, is a resident of Uttar Pradesh.

Sources from the police confirmed that the wood was being transported to Uttar Pradesh via Assam. Yadav was produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Monday. The recovered teak wood will be handed over to the Forest Department for further action, as confirmed by Kharibari police.
