Brown sugar worth Rs 4 crore seized in Bagdogra, one arrested

Siliguri, 26th July: Police of Special Operation Group (SOG) and Bagdogra police station arrested a smuggler with 2 kg 300 grams brown sugar in a joint operation on Kolkata Road near Army Camp near Bagdogra airport. 


The accused has been identified as Chandan Kumar, a resident of Bihar. Reportedly, he arrived in Siliguri with the brown sugar from Malda in a white Scorpio car holding Bihar’s number. 


Acting on the tip-off, the SOG, along with the undercover police of Bagdogra police station conducted a campaign and apprehended the car as soon as it reached Bagdogra. Upon searching, three packets of brown sugar were recovered from a bag kept in the trunk of the vehicle. The market value of the recovered brown sugar has been estimated to be crores of rupees. Chandan Kumar was immediately taken into custody. Further action will be initiated under the supervision of the Deputy Magistrate.
