Siliguri, 07th October: BJP’s Sumati Roy was elected as the new Pradhan of the Dabgram-II Anchal on Wednesday, bringing an end to days of speculation and political uncertainty,
Notably, former Pradhan Mitali Malakar’s resignation had triggered speculation over who would succeed her. The election of Sumati Roy has now settled the question of the local body’s new leadership.
The Dabgram-II Anchal had recently witnessed internal differences within the BJP. Former Pradhan Mitali Malakar had alleged that a section of party members and leaders had conspired to remove her from the post by allegedly joining hands with Panchayat members from opposition parties. She had described the developments as humiliating and shameful before resigning from the position.
Following her resignation, questions were raised over the BJP’s organisational situation in the Dabgram-II Anchal, with discussions surrounding internal disagreements and factional differences.
Against this backdrop, Sumati Roy was elected as the new Pradhan on Wednesday. Her election comes as the BJP seeks to address the internal differences that have emerged within the local organisation.
