Siliguri, 06th October: A joint team of the GRP SOG and NJP GRP recovered 30 packets of cannabis weighing around 35 kg during a special search operation at Platform No. 6 of NJP Railway Station. Two youths from Assam were arrested in connection with the seizure.
The arrested accused have been identified as Ujjwal Paswan (22) and Ujjwal Chandra (21).
According to GRP sources, the two had arrived at NJP from Assam by train and were moving around suspiciously on Platform No. 06. During the search, police recovered the cannabis from their trolley bags. The seized cannabis is estimated to be worth lakhs of rupees.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the two had brought the cannabis from Assam and were allegedly waiting for its delivery at the platform.
NJP GRP arrested both accused under the NDPS Act. They will be produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Wednesday. The GRP SOG is investigating the network allegedly operating behind the smuggling and identifying others involved.
