Bhakti Nagar Traffic Guard campaign to keep away totos on national highway

Siliguri, 02nd January: Following the High Court’s directive, Siliguri traffic police have been taking to the streets from January 01 to prevent e-rickshaws (toto) from plying on the national highway. 


Likewise, an operation was carried out by the Bhakti Nagar Traffic Guard today morning. During the campaign, several totos were seized and brought to the Bhakti Nagar traffic guard. Apart from this, a second warning was given to the toto drivers. 


It is to recall, during a press conference in December, State tourism minister Goutam Deb announced that from January 01, 2021, totos without number plates will be banned on the city’s main roads. 

According to police sources, arrangements are being made to stop the movement of totos on the national highways of Siliguri. Miking is also being carried out on in this regard. Police sources say, if any toto (e-rickshaws) without number plates is spotted on the main roads from January 01, strict action will be taken against them. 

Besides, all totos will be banned on national and state roads. However, the toto drivers have been suggested alternative roads to be used instead of national roads.
