Belakoba forest personnel arrest one with teak wood

Rajganj, 27th August: Forest personnel of Belakoba range seized teak wood worth Rs 40 lakh while it was being smuggled under the guise of rice sacks. The forest ranger arrested one person in the incident. The said alleged has been identified as Riyazuddin Ansari, a resident of Bihar. 


Reportedly, an operation was carried out under the leadership of Belakoba Forest Ranger Sanjay Dutta in the early hours of Saturday in the Kartoya area of Rajganj on the Siliguri-Jalpaiguri National Highway. During this, the forest personnel incepted a truck and conducted a search in which the forest workers recovered Burma teak wood hidden under rice sacks. After which the forest personnel arrested the truck driver.


According to forest department sources, the said wood was being smuggled from Guwahati and was taken to Bihar. The alleged accused will be produced in Jalpaiguri district court tomorrow.
