Attempted job fraud through social media foiled, one detained by police in Siliguri

Siliguri, 27th April: A scam aiming to deceive individuals seeking employment by creating false identities on social media has been thwarted in Siliguri. Binny Sikdar, a resident of Babupara, demonstrated remarkable acumen, leading to the detention of the perpetrator identified as Amit Bhattacharya.


As per reports, Binny Sikdar became acquainted with an individual named Amit Bhattacharya from Birpara on social media. Bhattacharya, posing as a railway employee, purported to assist job seekers in securing positions. Following several days of communication, Sikdar discussed her sister’s desire for a railway job with Bhattacharya. Promising assurance, Bhattacharya allegedly demanded money from Sikdar, delaying the promised job offer.

Sensing suspicion, Sikdar arranged a meeting with Bhattacharya at Vishal Cinema Hall in Siliguri under the pretext of handing over money. Simultaneously, she alerted the Bhakti Nagar police station of the unfolding scam. As Bhattacharya arrived, the police apprehended him.


Subsequently, Sikdar lodged a formal complaint against the accused for fraud.The police are currently engaged in a detailed investigation based on the complaint.
