Siliguri, 22nd June: A wave of happiness swept through ASHA workers in Siliguri after the State Government announced a ₹5,000 increase in the allowances of ASHA and Anganwadi workers in its first budget after coming to power.
To celebrate the announcement, ASHA workers gathered at Baghajatin Park in Siliguri on Monday and marked the occasion by distributing sweets among themselves.
The workers said they had been demanding an increase in allowances for a long time and were hoping for a hike of at least ₹15,000 per month. While that expectation was not met, they described the ₹5,000 increase as a positive and welcome step.
ASHA workers also stressed the need for stronger social security measures and the introduction of weekly holidays. They expressed hope that the government would give due consideration to these demands in the future.
The announcement has been welcomed by workers, who believe the increased allowance will provide some financial relief and recognition for their services.
