Kharibari, 05th October: A man was arrested with a pistol and 49 rounds of ammunition at the India-Nepal border in Kharibari.
The accused has been identified as Tashi Palki Bhutia, a resident of Sikkim. According to reports, he had left his four-wheeler near the border and was proceeding towards Nepal on foot.
The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) became suspicious while checking his identity documents. A search was subsequently conducted, during which a pistol and 49 rounds of ammunition were recovered from his possession.
As he could not provide a satisfactory explanation for carrying the pistol and ammunition while crossing the border, the SSB detained him and handed him over to Kharibari Police.
The accused claimed that he has a licence for the recovered pistol and ammunition. However, Kharibari Police arrested him in connection with the recovery of the firearm and ammunition at the border.
He was produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Monday. Kharibari Police have started an investigation into the incident.
