Kharibari, 29th September: After a long wait, residents of Chunilal Jote in Kharibari are set to get relief from the long-standing poor condition of the road, as the administration has initiated work on a new bitumen road in the area.
The foundation stone for the new road was laid by Ajay Oraon, Leader of the Opposition in the Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad and District Chairman.
With financial assistance from the Backward Classes Welfare Department, the road will be constructed at a cost of Rs 21,73,342. The project will cover approximately 700 metres, with the road being 3 metres wide.
Local residents said they had been facing severe difficulties commuting due to the poor condition of the road for a long time. The situation became even more difficult during the monsoon. The poor road condition affected the daily commute of school students and also created difficulties in taking sick patients and pregnant women to hospitals.
Residents have expressed happiness over the initiative to construct the new bitumen road.
Meanwhile, Ajay Oraon, Chairman of the District Panchayat Council of the Mahakuma Parishad, said Chunilal Jote is a predominantly agricultural area and most residents depend on farming. He said the poor condition of the road had been causing various problems for them for a long time, and the commencement of the road construction work would help ease those difficulties considerably.
