5 arrested for rape and forced abortion of a minor in Siliguri

Siliguri, 20th June: 5 people were arrested for alleged rape and forced abortion of a 14-year-old minor. The heinous incident surfaced from the city’s South Ambedkar Colony area.


As per the report, the minor lives in a rented house with her family in the mentioned area. The arrested include the minor’s mother, brother, neighbour Narottam Mandal (45), the house owner Rajesh Chandra Deb and his wife Suman Deb. The arrested were produced in Siliguri court today.

According to sources, the locals learned that the minor was pregnant a week ago. Initially, her family members refused to accept the matter, but after being pressed by the locals, the minor’s mother admitted that her daughter was pregnant.


Locals alleged that after two days the house owner Rajesh Chandra Deb and the mother of the minor took her to a nursing home, where she was forced to undergo an abortion. 

The agitated locals staged a protest in front of the minor’s house, on Friday and also reported the matter to the Pradhan Nagar police. Based on the complaint, the police arrested the 5 and took them under custody. And the accused women were sent to the Women’s Police Station. The women police later arrested the accused and produced them in Siliguri court today.
