21 daggers seized in Siliguri ahead of Lok Sabha elections, one arrested

Siliguri, 03rd April: In a recent development, the police officials recovered 21 daggers (khukri) from an individual in Siliguri ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The arrested individual has been identified as Nur Bahadur Kami (53), a resident of Kalimpong.


According to reports, the officials of the Panitanki Outpost intercepted a bus travelling from Siliguri to Kalimpong during a checking at the Panitanki More in Siliguri. During this, the officials held the accused individual and searched his bag. Subsequently, the police recovered 21 daggers from his bag worth an estimated market value of Rs 16,000. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused was attempting to smuggle the weapons to Kalimpong.

Meanwhile, the police officials are investigating the reason behind the attempted smuggling of the substantial number of daggers. The officials are further looking into a possible political connection behind the incident. On Wednesday, the accused person was presented before the Siliguri Court.
