Siliguri, 30th June: A 12-year-old girl has died in the Ganga Nagar area under Ward No. 05 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, with initial suspicion pointing towards food poisoning. However, the exact cause of death remains unclear.
According to information, Shyam Das, a resident of the area, stays away for work while his wife Kalavati Das lives at home with their three daughters, Anjali Das, Radhika Das, and Nandini Das.
On Saturday night, Kalavati Das along with Anjali Das and Nandini Das reportedly consumed food, while Radhika Das did not eat that night for unknown reasons.
On Sunday morning, Kalavati Das, Anjali Das, and Nandini Das suddenly fell ill and were taken to hospital with the help of family members and locals. The condition of 12-year-old Nandini Das deteriorated severely during treatment.
Nandini Das died in hospital on Monday while undergoing treatment. It is reported that the body was initially taken home without a postmortem examination.
On Tuesday, police from Khalpara Outpost along with a medical team reached the spot and took custody of the body, which was later sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for postmortem.
Kalavati Das and Anjali Das are currently undergoing treatment in hospital. Police said the matter is being investigated from all angles, and the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the postmortem report.
Ward councillor Anita Mahato also visited the spot and termed the incident extremely tragic, stating that police and medical teams are investigating the case seriously.
