Siliguri, 04th October: A 19-year-old youth was killed and two others were critically injured after the bike they were travelling on crashed into a road divider near the Fire Station on SF Road in Siliguri late at night.
The deceased has been identified as Rahul Debnath (19), a resident of Ward No. 33 of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation.
The three youths were reportedly returning home after watching a football match in Chandmuni when the accident occurred. According to police, they were travelling on a single bike when the vehicle allegedly went out of control due to high speed and rammed into the divider.
The impact left all three seriously injured. On receiving information, police from the Khalpara Outpost reached the spot and rushed the injured youths to Siliguri District Hospital. Doctors declared Rahul Debnath dead on arrival.
The two other injured youths were referred to separate hospitals for advanced treatment. One is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Siliguri, while the other is being treated at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH). Their condition is reportedly critical.
According to a relative, Rahul had gone to Chandmuni with two friends to watch a football match. The accident occurred while the three were returning home on the same bike after the match.
Police have seized the damaged bike and initiated an investigation into the incident.
