Siliguri, 03rd October: A portion of an old house in Deshbandhu Para under Siliguri Municipal Corporation’s Ward No. 30 was demolished on Saturday in compliance with a directive issued by the Calcutta High Court.
According to local sources, a long-standing dispute had been ongoing among the owners over a portion of the house. The matter reached the court in connection with the division of the land.
The High Court subsequently directed that the disputed portion be vacated within a specified timeframe. The owner was reportedly granted one month to comply with the order.
However, as the unauthorised portion was not demolished within the stipulated deadline, officials of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation carried out the demolition on Saturday in accordance with the court’s directive.
The house owner claimed that the dispute stemmed from errors made during the land division process several years ago. He said the issue eventually led to a legal battle and the demolition of a portion of the house.
While stating that he respected the court’s order, the owner said the outcome might have been different had he been given additional time to comply.
Meanwhile, Municipal Corporation sources confirmed that the demolition was carried out in accordance with the Calcutta High Court’s directive and the deadline mentioned in the notice issued earlier.
