Siliguri, 04th October: The Siliguri Metropolitan Police continued its crackdown on drug trafficking ahead of the Puja festivities, with the Special Operations Group (SOG) and Pradhan Nagar police jointly arresting three individuals, including a couple, with 790 grams of brown sugar in the Siliguri Junction area on Saturday evening.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sadhan Roy, his wife Anjali Karmakar, and Kanak Kanti Roy, all reportedly from Balurghat.
According to police, the joint operation was conducted based on a tip-off regarding a suspected drug delivery in the Junction area. During the search, police recovered 790 grams of brown sugar packed in three separate packets from the three accused. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth several lakhs of rupees.
Police said the trio had allegedly travelled to Siliguri from Balurghat and were preparing to deliver the brown sugar in the crowded Junction area. However, the police intercepted them before the alleged delivery could take place.
The three accused have been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and are scheduled to be produced before the Siliguri Court on Sunday.
