Siliguri, 25th September: The body of a 21-year-old woman was recovered from a rented house in Panchanan Colony under Ward No. 01 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation on Friday morning, triggering concern in the area. The deceased has been identified as Priya Biswas, a resident of Uttar Dinajpur. She had been living in a rented house in the area for around a year and worked at a mall in Matigara.
According to information, Priya’s grandmother had gone to meet her on Friday morning. When there was no response despite knocking on the door for a long time, she informed the landlord. Pradhan Nagar Police reached the spot and broke open the door to enter the room. Priya was subsequently taken to Siliguri District Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Priya’s mother has accused a youth named Abhishek of repeatedly harassing her daughter. She claimed that the youth had also called Priya two days ago and allegedly harassed her. However, police have not yet confirmed these allegations.
A mobile phone and other belongings were recovered from the spot. Police are examining the mobile phone for clues and investigating the entire matter.
