Siliguri, 25th September: The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway has achieved another landmark recognition in global tourism, with its iconic Toy Train featuring among the world’s best travel experiences in Lonely Planet’s ‘Best in Travel 2027’ list.
The recognition by internationally renowned travel guide and magazine Lonely Planet has further elevated the global profile of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway and its heritage Toy Train.
The blend of heritage and modernity, the historical legacy of the DHR, the scenic beauty of the hills and various initiatives to promote eco-friendly tourism in collaboration with local communities have contributed to this recognition.
DHR Director Rishab Chaudhary said the recognition from an internationally renowned organisation like Lonely Planet is not only a major achievement for Darjeeling and the Toy Train but also for the tourism industry across the Eastern Himalayas.
He said the recognition would further strengthen efforts to preserve the railway’s heritage while developing modern tourism facilities in collaboration with local communities.
Chaudhary added that the international recognition is expected to bring a significant increase in tourist arrivals in the coming days, which would play an important role in creating local employment opportunities and strengthening the regional economy.
