Siliguri, 15th October: Pradhan Nagar Police have arrested a woman accused of failing to pay hotel bills and threatening to implicate the hotel management in a false case when asked to clear the dues. The arrested woman has been identified as Trina Bhattacharya (38), a resident of South 24 Parganas.
According to police sources, Bhattacharya had arrived in Siliguri around two months ago for some work and was staying at a hotel near Gurung Basti More. The hotel management alleged that she had stayed there for nearly two months without paying the room rent, accumulating dues of approximately ₹50,000 to ₹60,000.
When asked to pay the outstanding amount, the woman allegedly handed over a cheque to the hotel management. However, the cheque bounced when it was deposited at the bank.
The hotel management subsequently pressed her to clear the dues. However, she allegedly threatened to file a false case against the management. Following this, the hotel management lodged a written complaint against her at Pradhan Nagar Police Station on the previous day, accusing her of cheating, criminal intimidation and other offences.
Acting on the complaint, police arrested the woman from the hotel. A case has been registered, and she was produced before the Siliguri court on Thursday.
Police are also trying to ascertain the reason for her stay in Siliguri and the purpose of her visit. The investigation into the matter is underway.
