Siliguri, 15th October: Bhakti Nagar Police have arrested a youth identified as Gopal Dey on charges of stealing copper wire and recovered around 10 kg of burnt copper wire from his possession.
According to police sources, on 11th October, Shankar Das, an employee of GTL Infrastructure Limited, lodged a complaint alleging that copper cable had been stolen from the company’s site in the Shankar Park area.
Based on the complaint, Bhakti Nagar Police registered a case and launched an investigation. During the probe, police received a tip-off and detained Gopal Dey for questioning on suspicion of involvement in the theft.
During questioning, the accused reportedly provided information that led police to recover the stolen copper wire.
Gopal Dey, a resident of Lakhi Colony in Ward No. 42 of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, was booked in connection with the theft case and produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Thursday.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
