Siliguri, 15th October: Mitra Sammilani in Siliguri has taken up a unique initiative to transport residents back to the city as it was in 1909. Marking the centenary of its Durga Puja, the club has recreated the city’s early history, featuring old vehicles, shops and memories of a bygone era.
The pandal showcases the toy train that once ran along Hill Cart Road, along with bus services and bullock carts that were part of Siliguri’s transport system in those days.
Blending history with heritage, the Puja pandal has emerged as a special attraction for residents and visitors, offering a glimpse into the city’s past.
Mitra Sammilani Durga Puja Committee secretary Sourav Bhattacharya said the initiative was taken to highlight the history of the club’s Puja and bring it before the public. He added that the main objective was to familiarise the present generation with old Siliguri and remind them of the city’s rich heritage.
Along with the festive celebrations, visitors will get an opportunity to revisit the history and memories of Siliguri’s bygone days through this year’s theme.
