Siliguri, 25th September: NJP Police have arrested a woman for allegedly carrying out fraud using the name of a matrimonial organisation. Two other women have also been detained in connection with the case.
According to police sources, a raid was conducted at an apartment on Shaktigarh Road No. 5 in Siliguri on Thursday night, following which the three women were detained. Kakali Biswas was subsequently arrested.
Biswas is reportedly a resident of Bihar, while the two detained women are residents of the Shaktigarh area.
According to the allegations, people were contacted over the phone in the name of a matrimonial organisation and promised photographs and detailed information about prospective brides and grooms. Large sums of money were allegedly collected from them on the assurance of providing the information and photographs.
However, after receiving the money, the promised information or photographs were allegedly not provided.
Police have also launched a search for the owners of the matrimonial organisation whose name was allegedly being used in the suspected fraud.
Kakali Biswas was produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Friday.
