Siliguri, 25th September: The Anti-Crime Wing of Pradhan Nagar Police Station arrested a man and seized gold worth around Rs 35 lakh from Tenzing Norgay Bus Stand in Siliguri.
The arrested accused has been identified as 34-year-old Prem Kumar, a resident of Muzaffarpur, Bihar.
According to police, seven pieces of melted gold weighing more than 202 grams in total were recovered from his possession. The seizure included two biscuit-shaped pieces and five other pieces of gold.
Police said the accused could not produce any valid documents related to the recovered gold.
Police suspect that the gold may have been melted to conceal its identity before being brought to Siliguri from Bihar. An investigation is underway to determine whether the gold is connected to any theft or robbery.
The accused was produced before the court, where police sought his custody for further investigation.
