WB govt postpones municipal polls, SMC election to be held on February 12

Siliguri, 15th January: Due to the surge in COVID-19 cases, the West Bengal government postponed all four municipal corporation polls. As per the decision, the SMC election 2022 will now be held on February 12.


The election of four Municipal Corporations, namely Siliguri Municipal Corporation, Chandannagar Municipal Corporation, Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation, and Asansol Municipal Corporation was earlier declared to be held on January 22. However, later the Calcutta High Court postponed the elections for 3 weeks considering the seriousness of the covid situation in the state.
