Siliguri, 19th June: In a tragic incident, a man was found dead in the Ujjanu Shiv Nagar area of Ward No. 46 near Darjeeling More after heavy rainfall caused severe waterlogging in several parts of Siliguri, triggering concern among local residents.
Upon receiving information, police from Pradhan Nagar Police Station reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for post-mortem examination.
The deceased has been identified as 42-year-old Rakesh Kumar Sah, a native of Bihar who had been living in Siliguri with his family for the past few years. He worked at an egg warehouse in the Regulated Market.
According to local residents, several houses in the area were inundated following heavy overnight rainfall. It is suspected that Rakesh Kumar Sah was asleep when water entered the house and may have drowned without realizing the danger.
Police have started an investigation into the incident. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report is received.
