Voter declared ‘dead’ in electoral records during Lok Sabha elections in Siliguri, Councillor calls negligence

Siliguri, 19th April: In a bizarre turn of events, a voter in Siliguri found out that his name had been removed from the voters’ list at the polling booth. The news surfaced from Valmiki Vidyapith High School in Ward No. 34 of Siliguri.


According to reports, Govind Roy, a resident of Bhakti Nagar, arrived at polling booth No. 236 to cast his vote in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections. However, after waiting in queue to cast his vote, Roy came to know that his name was struck off from the list of voters as he was ‘dead’ according to the electoral records.

In this regard, Roy expressed his confusion when he arrived to cast his vote in the morning only to learn that he was termed dead in the electoral records. However, his family members were able to cast their votes as per the procedure.


On the other hand, Ward Councillor Biman Chandra Tapadar stated that this is serious negligence on the part of the officials. He further asserted that the BLO officials have not been doing their job properly, leading to these issues.
