Siliguri, 19th September: The Women Police Station in Siliguri has arrested a man on allegations of marrying a minor girl and subjecting her to physical and mental abuse. The accused has been identified as MD Alimuddin, a resident of Adarsh Nagar in Siliguri who works in online product delivery.
According to police, the accused married the minor in May this year. Following the marriage, he allegedly assaulted her and subjected her to physical and mental abuse. The minor is reportedly around three months pregnant.
Following a recent incident of assault, the minor informed her mother. After undergoing a medical examination at a hospital, her mother lodged a complaint at the Women Police Station.
Based on the complaint, police arrested the accused. A case has been registered against him under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The accused was produced before the Siliguri court on Saturday. The investigation into the case is underway.
