Two youths died of asphyxiation inside a septic tank in Siliguri

Siliguri, 18th August: Two youths died of asphyxiation while inspecting the construction of a septic tank of an under-construction building near Siliguri’s Tinbatti More.


The incident occurred on Tuesday and an atmosphere of grief has engulfed the area ever since. The deceased have been identified as Deepak Roy and Amit Barman.

As per the report, the two youths used to live in the house of Jayanta Saha. This morning, Deepak allegedly went inside the tank to see its construction work, but suddenly fell sick. Seeing this, Amit climbed down the septic tank and tried to rescue Deepak but he failed to do so. Amit too suffocated inside the tank.


The incident was then reported to the fire brigade. The firefighters rushed to the spot shortly after, rescued the two and rushed them to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital, where the doctors declared them dead.

In this context, house owner Jayanta Saha stated that the duo used to live in his house for a long time. He said that the duo might have fallen sick after inhaling toxic fumes and poisonous gases. He added that both Deepak and Amit were already dead while being taken to NBMCH.
