Kalimpong, 04th January: Two women were trampled to death and five more severely injured when a stampede broke out during an event held at the Kalimpong Mela ground.
Reportedly, a local club organized an event at Kalimpong Mela ground last evening. A band from Nepal was the main performer of the event. During the programme, a huge crowd gathered in front of the ground’s main entrance. After the gate was opened, many people fell and were trampled down, killing a woman on the spot and injuring several others.
The injured were immediately rushed to the Kalimpong Hospital, out of which, another woman succumbed to her injuries, this morning. Two out of the injured have been shifted to Siliguri. The Kalimpong police are investigating the incident.
