Siliguri, 18th September: The ‘Ashirbader Pradip’ was lit in Siliguri along with other parts of the country to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. The special programme was organised on Thursday despite the rain.
Tourism Minister Shankar Ghosh, Siliguri SDO and other administrative officials were present at the event. The programme began with the lighting of the lamp in the presence of Minister Shankar Ghosh. Despite the adverse weather, organisers and participants attended the event.
One of the highlights of the programme was an ‘Aarti’ on the banks of the Mahananda River. Following the lamp-lighting, a special ‘Aarti’ was performed along the river amid the rain.
Speaking to reporters, Minister Shankar Ghosh said that a month-long series of programmes has been planned around the Prime Minister’s birthday as part of the ‘25 Years of Service’ initiative. He said the period will be observed through various social and public welfare activities.
The programme was conducted in the presence of administrative officials. Several more programmes will be organised over the next month as part of the celebrations.
