Siliguri, 01st October: Matigara Police have arrested two people and recovered stolen items in connection with a theft at the residence of a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Siliguri.
According to police sources, retired DSP Hemant Das, a resident of the Saradapally, Shiv Mandir area, lodged a written complaint at Matigara Police Station on August 26. He alleged that thieves had entered his house and fled with a large quantity of silver jewellery, brass and bronze items, along with Rs 2,000 in cash.
Following the complaint, the plainclothes police team of Matigara Police Station launched an investigation. Police examined CCTV footage from the area and began monitoring the movements of suspected individuals.
During the investigation, police reportedly received clues about a suspect and arrested 24-year-old Dhiraj Sha, a resident of Shaktinagar under Raiganj Police Station. He was taken into five days of police custody for questioning.
During interrogation, police reportedly recovered a large quantity of brass and bronze items along with some silver jewellery from the residence of Gulshan Khatun, a resident of the Bypass Road AH-2 area under Matigara Police Station, based on information allegedly provided by Dhiraj.
The recovered brass and bronze items reportedly weigh around 10.5 kilograms. Police seized the recovered items and subsequently arrested Gulshan Khatun in connection with the case.
Police are now investigating whether any other people were involved in the theft.
