Siliguri, 01st October: Matigara Police have arrested two people in connection with two separate theft cases in the Matigara area of Siliguri and recovered the stolen items.
The first incident took place at the residence of Arvind Sarkar at Chaurasia Bhavan near Chowrangi More in Matigara. Sarkar lodged a written complaint at Matigara Police Station on September 29, alleging that unidentified miscreants had stolen items used for puja from his house.
The stolen items included various silver puja utensils, a silver idol of Lord Ganesha and a silver idol of Lord Shiva. Following the complaint, plainclothes police from Matigara Police Station launched an investigation.
Acting on information, police arrested Shubham Roy, a resident of Anil Nagar. He was subsequently produced before the court and taken into three days of police custody for questioning.
During interrogation, police recovered the stolen items from a water channel behind the complainant’s house based on information allegedly provided by the accused. The recovered items included silver puja utensils, a silver idol of Lord Ganesha and a silver idol of Lord Shiva.
In the second case, a gas cylinder was stolen from Tarabari Primary School on September 23. During the investigation, Matigara Police arrested Piyush Saha (22), a resident of the Goruhati area, from Khudiram Pally.
Police also recovered the stolen gas cylinder from his possession.
Both accused were produced before the Siliguri court on Thursday. Matigara Police are continuing their investigation into both cases.
