Naxalbari, 23rd February: A person was shot to death while stealing timber in Naxalbari’s Tukuriajhar forest, on Tuesday night. The incident created a stir in the entire area.
As per the report, a group of timber smugglers arrived to steal timber in the Tukuriajhar forest of Naxalbari last night. Upon receiving the news, the forest department workers reached the spot and got into a conflict with the smugglers. Shortly after the incident, the body of a smuggler was found shot dead.
Later, an officer of Kurseong Division and rural DSP of Darjeeling District Police, Circle Inspector, and a large team of Kharibari and Naxalbari Police reached the spot. The body was later recovered and sent to the morgue of Naxalbari Rural Hospital.
Police also recovered sharp weapons from the spot. An investigation has been launched into the whole incident.
