Throat swabs of the prisoners of the Jalpaiguri Central Correctional Home collected for COVID-19 testing

Jalpaiguri, 14th May: The swabs of the prisoners in Jalpaiguri Central Correctional Home were collected on Thursday, in the presence of the officer on special duty for COVID-19 in North Bengal Dr. Susanta Roy, District Chief Health official Ramendranath Pramanik and other health workers.


The home authorities stated that there are currently more than 1246 prisoners inside the correctional home. Besides, several convicts enter the home regularly and are further taken to the court. Keeping in mind the safety of all, the District Health Department has decided to collect the throat swabs of all the inmates as well as the working staff for COVID-19 testing.

The throat swabs of the prisoners were collected on Thursday by the health officials and then sent to the North Bengal Medical College-Hospital (NBMCH) for final testing.
