Naxalbari, 06th January: In a shocking incident, thieves targeted the home of former soldier Hom Bahadur Chhetri in Tarabari village near the India–Nepal border, making off with gold and silver ornaments and cash worth lakhs of rupees.
According to reports, early Tuesday morning, Hom Bahadur Chhetri was preparing feed for livestock while his wife was asleep inside the house. Taking advantage of the situation, the thieves entered the home and stole approximately 16 ‘bhori’ of gold ornaments, half a kilogram of silver ornaments, and ₹2.75 lakh in cash from the almirah. The theft was noticed immediately by the former soldier upon entering the room.
Naxalbari Police Station reached the scene after receiving information about the incident. Hom Bahadur Chetri alleged that the thieves had used reconnaissance to plan the robbery. He urged the authorities to apprehend the culprits quickly.
Sajani Subba, Saha-Sabhapati of the Naxalbari Panchayat Samiti, stated that thefts have been occurring frequently in the area and called for increased police patrolling.
The Naxalbari police have launched an investigation into the incident.
