Siliguri, 23rd July: Sensation prevailed after a herd of 3 elephants went on a rampage in various parts of the city, last night. An atmosphere of panic was witnessed among the locals following the incident.
Reportedly, 3 elephants came out of the Baikunthapur forest last night and entered several residential areas including Baneshwar More, Ghogomali, Mid Chayanpara, and Sanghati More.
Following this, the animals broke a barricade as well as a house gate located in a containment zone. Upon receiving the news, the forest workers reached the spot and chased the elephants back to the forest. Luckily, no casualties were reported in the incident.
Raju Saha, a resident of Mid Chayanpara, stated that the three elephants entered the locality around 2.30 am last night. The elephants also destroyed a garden in the area and then headed towards Sukanta Nagar area in Ward No. 38. The forest workers immediately rushed to the spot and chased the elephants back to the forest.
