Siliguri, 19th September: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) detained four Rohingyas from the general coach of the Tripura Sundari Express at New Jalpaiguri (NJP) railway station on Friday night. Two of those detained are reportedly minors.
According to the RPF, the four individuals were unable to produce any identification documents related to their stay or travel in India. During questioning, they reportedly stated that they were residents of Myanmar.
The RPF had received information from a reliable source that some Rohingyas were travelling in the general coach of the down Tripura Sundari Express. Following the information, RPF officers and personnel were alerted at NJP railway station.
As soon as the train arrived at platform number 6 of NJP station, the RPF conducted a search of the general coach. Four individuals were detained based on their suspected activities, and no identification documents were reportedly found during the search.
The detained individuals have been identified as Mohammad Salam (26), Mohammad Sufayed (18), Mofizur Rahman (17) and Zainub Bibi (17). Mofizur Rahman and Zainub Bibi are minors.
According to the RPF, the four had allegedly entered India illegally through the Agartala border. They reportedly travelling from Badarpur to New Delhi by train and were preparing to travel to Mohali in Punjab.
The RPF handed over the four individuals to the NJP Government Railway Police (GRP), along with the necessary reports and documents, for further legal action. The GRP subsequently produced them before a Jalpaiguri court in connection with allegations of illegal entry into India.
