Siliguri, 06th October: The Sukna Range team of the Forest Department arrested a man during an operation in the Khaprail area late Monday night and recovered an SBBL gun, three live ammunition and around 2.5 kg of pangolin scales from his possession.
The arrested accused has been identified as Dilip Darjee, a resident of the Matigara Police Station area.
The Forest Department has registered a case against the accused under the Arms Act, 1959 and the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. The accused was produced before the Kurseong court on Tuesday. His bail plea was rejected and he was sent to judicial custody.
The Forest Department is now investigating the source of the recovered pangolin scales and the possible smuggling network operating behind them.
