Siliguri, 06th October: The CPI(M) Darjeeling District Committee staged a protest in Siliguri on Tuesday, raising two demands related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process and democratic rights.
Party leaders and workers marched from Mahananda Bridge to the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Officer’s office, where they staged a demonstration.
The CPI(M) demanded that eligible voters whose names were excluded from the electoral roll during the SIR process be included in the list at the earliest.
The party also accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of harassing common people and curtailing their democratic rights. The CPI(M) demanded his immediate removal from the post and legal action against him.
Party leaders said several important issues concerning the electoral roll and democratic rights need to be resolved promptly. They warned that a larger movement would be launched if their demands are not met.
